Hobart Junior Roller Derby

Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Hobart, TAS, Australia

Hobart Junior Roller Derby is a league dedicated to the fun and camaraderie of Roller Derby for kids.

We have highly skilled coaches who play roller derby at a national level with Convict City Roller Derby League and South Island Sirens Roller Derby League. We also use the international Junior Roller Derby Association rule-set (a modified version of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association rules) for a younger age group. All our insurance plans are conducted through Skate Victoria. All coaches and players must abide by a code of conduct to ensure safety and enjoyment to all involved. We also encourage parents to join the HJRD committee to have a say in how the league runs and the future of Junior Roller Derby in Hobart.

Whilst Roller Derby is mainly a female sport, there are still options for boys and men who would like to be involved. At a junior level the boys learn exactly the same skills as the girls, playing games in mixed teams. There are also options for men at a senior level- there are several ‘Merby’ teams (Mens Roller Derby) in Australia, although there are none in Tasmania as yet. Furthermore, both men and women are able to referee games and keep track of other important game info in the capacity of an NSO (Non-Skating Official).
